Financial Policy: The physicians and staff would like to provide the following information about the billing and payment policies for our professional services. Prompt payment allows us to control costs. Outstanding accounts cost patients and providers time and money. It is therefore up to each patient to establish financial arrangements. These can be in the form of proof of insurance or payment arrangements. As a courtesy, we will bill a patient’s insurance company. However, insurance coverage is an agreement between the patient and the insurance company. It is the patient’s responsibility to make sure that their insurance carrier makes payments, and to pay for charges not covered by insurance. Each month a patient will receive a statement, which is due within 30 days. If no payment is received or other financial counseling has not occurred previously, a series of reminder notices and collection calls will be made. A patient’s financial status will be considered if economic hardships are brought to the attention of the billing department. If a balance remains unpaid for an extended period, without pending insurance or financial arrangements, accounts may be turned over for outside collections. Our external agency, whose activity conforms to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, may post unfavorable credit information to a patient’s credit report. If an account has a credit balance over $10.00, a refund will be given to the responsible party. However, credit balances less than $10.00 will be retained and applied to future balances unless a refund is specifically requested. The Cardiovascular Group believes that a successful provider/patient relationship is based upon understanding and open communication. Our staff is instructed to consider the sensitive nature of financial matters and will make every effort to address patient’s questions and concerns appropriately.
